Year 6 Autumn 1 Newsletter

The first half term seems to have flown by and year 6 pupils have applied themselves excellently throughout. This half term we are looking at the power of the media. Our first piece of reading and writing is looking at balanced arguments on screen time, after which we will be looking at newspaper reports to do with false advertising.

Theme: Values and Perceptions (Can I understand the power of the media?)

EI Value: Understanding (Do I recognise the way I and others are feeling?)

Year 5 Autumn 2 Newsletter

Welcome back to another exciting half term at Manley Park! We hope that you have had a good break and are as excited to be back as we are. Out theme for this half term is: Values and Perceptions. Our leading question is: Can I understand the power of the media? With the supporting question: How does our perception of something impact the value we give it?

Year 1 Trip to the Lowry 6th December 2018

To support our learning of ‘Values and Perceptions’ next half term, Year 1 will be visiting The Lowry Theatre to watch the live show of ‘Stickman’ on Thursday 6th December 2018. This will be a fantastic and exciting opportunity for us and will support the children with their learning.

We will be travelling to and from The Lowry via the Metrolink. We will leave school at approximately 9.15am and walk to St Werburghs Metrolink stop; here we will get on to the Metrolink’s direct line to Media City. Once at Media City we will have a walk around Salford Quays and have our lunch. We will then attend the 1.30pm showing of ‘Stickman’ at the Lowry. Once the show is finished we will board the Metrolink and walk back to school. Please collect your child from the playground at the later time of 4pm.

EYFS Children Online Learning Journey - Tapestry

This year, we are introducing an exciting new way to record, track and share your child’s learning during their time in the Early Years Foundation Stage. We are using a secure, online learning journey called ‘Tapestry’. This will enable staff to take photographs, videos and make written observations of the significant learning your child does at school. You will then have access to this information by logging on with a secure username and password so you can celebrate this learning at home too. Parents/carers can also add their own photos and comments to the journal.

There will be an introduction meeting for Parents on Tapestry on the 15/10/18 at 9:15am at the infants.

Outdoor art Project

As a team, we are developing plans to renovate some of the communal areas in school.

We are looking to create some innovative pieces of artwork that demonstrate the values that we share as a community. One of these pieces of art is being led by the Year 6 Eco Peer Educators and will be created out of recycled materials.

We would be very grateful if all families could collect and bring in lids from plastic bottles, cartons and jars (e.g. sprite, coke, water, milk, juice, laundry detergent and food jars). The more varied in colour, the better! We will also be collecting old CDs and any spare plastic bags you may have at home.

Class Dojo

As many of you know, we are using ClassDojo as a communication app for the classroom. It connects teachers, parents, and students who use it to share photos, videos, and updates throughout the school day. We use ClassDojo to work together as a team, share classroom experiences, and bring big ideas to life in our classrooms and homes. We want to build a positive culture where students are engaged, encouraged, and love learning! We want all parents to be part of our classroom and school community, seeing what we’re learning every day.

Manley Park School Song

During the course of our INSET day on September 3rd, the staff team were set the challenge of creating a song that could represent the values of our school and encapsulate our identity as a community. The following lyrics are the result of our efforts and children across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 have already begun learning the song as part of our EI assemblies. We thought that parents and carers would also like the opportunity to learn the school song and to sing it with their children at home, in the car or on their way to and from Manley Park.

The song is composed to the tune of Bill Wither’s classic Lean on Me, which will be known to many. If not, be sure to find a recording on the internet or a streaming site of your own choosing. In time, we hope the song will become a great way of binding us all together as one community who believe in the same values and seek to live these out on a daily basis at home, at school and beyond.

Reception All About Me Letter

This term our theme has been ‘All About Me’. We have been using the movie The Incredibles to support our learning. We have looked at our own super powers, our strengths, our weaknesses and how we overcome challenges.

As part of this learning we will be holding a Superhero Training Academy on Thursday 4th October. There will be a range of creative and physical challenges including face painting, cape making, and mask making and a bouncy castle obstacle course to test our physical skills. The training academy will be instead of a trip this term.

We would like to ask for a donation of £2 per child to cover the cost of the bouncy castle and resources for the training academy session. This will be payable on Parent Pay.

We are so excited about the day and hope you are too!

If you have any queries or questions about the day then please see a member of the Reception Team.

Best Wishes,

The Reception Team

Nursery Update

We are writing to inform you of some changes that will take place in our Nursery this year. The number of children on roll is lower than we anticipated. We have sought advice and thought carefully about our provision and as a school we have made the decision to split the Nursery into 3 key worker groups, with 12/13 children in each group. We will keep the groups consistent and individual parents will be informed if their child’s key worker will change.

Letter to Parents

As you may be aware our head teacher, Miss Hamilton-Hall, is not in school at present.

She was off at the end of the summer term due to ill health. We have no further update to share but would like to re-assure you that we will share information with you as soon as we can.

In her absence, we are working closely together with the support of the staff and governors to ensure the school runs smoothly and the children continue to experience high quality learning opportunities.
